Be honest. Do the words "dinner theater" inspire confidence? Or do they conjure visions of retirees gumming down creamed corn while swaying appreciatively to a third-rate rendition of Mary Poppins? Neighborhood Flix Cinema & Café is exactly the opposite. Instead of serving up creamed-whatever and rubber chicken, this newly opened restaurant-meets-theater offers everything from vegan sandwiches and gourmet snacks, to personal pizzas and burgers. 

You can also order up popcorn, some candy and a mixed drink, beer or even a glass of wine for the show. The brainchild of Jimmie Lee Smith and his wife Michelle Dorant, the genesis for the theater/café was about, "bringing the community together to dine on healthy and unique food, view an art film, and then have the opportunity to sit in the café and chat about the film afterwards."

Speaking of the shows, don't expect to see any off-off-Colfax acts or gazillion dollar CGI-meets-ADD Bruckheimer flicks. Instead, Smith and Dorant want to offer a selection of independent films, documentaries, classics, foreign movies and even films from local artists.
At last, the days of rushing through dinner to make it to the show are over. Time to relax, sit back and relish two blissful hours of gourmet vittles, cocktails and indie-cinema.
