Next Stop: The Hudson

A restaurant reminiscent of a speakeasy debuting in West Hollywood is a perfect fit, in part because of the current economic climate hearkening back to harder times. But, as in the Prohibition era and the Great Depression, finding a good deal is still cause to celebrate. The Hudson, housed in the old train station on Crescent Heights and Santa Monica Boulevard, is a restaurant and bar where even Boxcar Willie could scrounge together enough for a brew or a two.

The Hudson goes full steam ahead obliterating any sign of previous restaurant incarnations by blasting out the dining area with bench seat-lined walls and a brown tonal décor. The simple, yet sophisticated styling continues with basic entrees turned gourmet. The lemon chicken or salmon, priced at $13 and $16 respectively, demonstrate the thrifty side of gastronomy and serve as a nod to the past -- and to the price conscious customer. With your saved pennies, order a pint: there are over 30 selections of beer, in addition to an expansive wine list with a focus on California vineyards (think Grapes of Wrath - the wrath being your potential hangover). There is also a full bar, which come weekend brunch is the real ticket with build-your-own-Bloody Marys (for those that can't handle the hard stuff, sip on bottomless mimosas - a rare find in the area). So whether it's dinner or brunch that pulls you into this stop on the journey to financial recovery, we think your time there will be well spent.
