We love sharing monumental news.
And we love sharing monumental monument news even more.
Tonight, history will be made at the corner of Throckmorton Street and Cedar Springs Road. (And no, we’re not talking about our first-ever gay kiss.)
After working tirelessly for more than two years, Robert Emery petitioned on behalf of The Dallas Way to get the Texas Historical Commission to erect a historical subject marker at “The Crossroads.” With help from fellow history crusaders Sam Childers and Mark Doty, the stars aligned to bring us to this moment.
But this is not your typical Texas history plaque. It’s the first-ever LGBTQ Historical Subject Marker in the Lone Star State. Below is a rendering similar to what will be unveileded tonight for the world to see.
As gay men who’ve lived in Dallas for decades, we here at He Said Magazine are so proud of Emery, Childers, Doty and countless others for their help in making this happen.
Because we’re here, we’re queer and we finally have the bronze plaque to prove it.
