Don’t settle for cake by the ocean when you can have beefcake by the ocean!
Pride season is upon us, but there’s no reason to wait until June thanks to Miami Beach Gay Pride.
The oceanfront celebration kicks off on April 2 for a week of big gay event culminating in the 10th annual parade on Sunday, April 8 along Ocean Drive. Out Olympian (and all-around dreamboat) Gus Kenworthy will serve as Grand Marshal.
Highlights of the week include headliner Betty Who, beach parties and drag shows aplenty.
Check out scenes from last year’s event below and we’re pretty sure you’ll be ready to book those flights immediately. Then skip below for five hotels in South Beach we know and love.
You probably won’t be sleeping much, but you’ll definitely need a place to wash the sand out of all those nooks and crannies.
Fave Five: South Beach Hotels We Love
We’ve been to South Beach several times over the years and just returned last week from a long weekend by the crystal blue waters. While we can’t recommend every hotel we’ve stayed in there, we do have some favorites.
Steps from the ocean, this gorgeous property features a wonderful art collection, impeccably decorated rooms, two pools, great views, as well as multiple drinking and dining options. The facade is classic South Beach and the location simply can’t be beat. Oh, and make sure you go to the alley between the hotel’s two buildings and look up for one of the hotel’s coolest hidden features.
The Gates South Beach
We love the pool (because sometimes the ocean freaks us out!) and the rooms here have a breezy, beachy vibe that just makes us happy. Plus, during Miami Beach Pride, they’re offering a special “Pride Guide” package with 20% off rooms and other perks, including welcome drinks. (Note: Must call to reserve this package.)
Sense Beach House
Whenever you find yourself in South Beach and want more intimate accommodations, this charming boutique property features only 18 rooms, but the service is impeccable and you’re only a five-minute walk (or less) to the beach. They offer complimentary chairs and umbrellas, too, which really come in handy if you want to venture to the gay area of Haulover Park’s nude beach by car.
Hyatt Centric South Beach Miami
We’d never even heard of the Hyatt Centric brand before, but after visiting a couple weeks ago, we’re big fans. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the guest rooms had the biggest impact on the contemporary rooms. Plus, the rooftop deck pool with its cabanas and loungers with waiter service and access to DECK Sixteen’s awesome Mediterranean cuisine really wow, too. Make sure to splurge on a cookie or brownie at the bar from a local baker.
Marriott Stanton South Beach
Situated about as far south on South Beach as you can get, this Art Deco-inspired property boasts rooms with killer ocean views, as well as a pool and hot tub that also overlook the waves beyond. There’s a full-service spa, too, in case you need more relaxation than you can get simply lounging on the beach. Except, well, they don’t serve margaritas during massages.
