Hilarious. H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S. Hilarious.

Some boys play football. Others, baseball. And, on the good side of town, polo.

Our sport of choice growing up, however, was spelling. It required zero coordination and didn’t involve getting naked in a locker room before a match.

Therefore, we lived for spelling bees each year and even though we never made it past the citywide competition, we could still negotiate the alphabet better than any quarterback doing his quarterbacking stuff.

So it should come as little surprise that we absolutely adore the Tony Award-winning musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company presents the side-splitting comedy this Wednesday through Sunday.

Like any good sports tale, you’ll find yourself rooting for your favorite to come out on top. Because in spelling bees, all that truly counts is victory.

V-I-C-T-O-R-Y. Victory.
