We just learned that Dallas didn’t make the cut for the 2022 Gay Games. Neither did Austin, San Francisco, Salt Lake City or Denver. The Federation of Gay Games has chosen Hong Kong, Guadalajara and Washington, DC, as the three finalists for host city.
Here’s what Monica Paul, Executive Director of the Dallas Sports Commission, had to say in her letter breaking the news to the community:
“While we were not successful in moving onto the next step of the bid process, we value the relationships that were made during this process and know that Dallas has Big things to look forward to in our near future. The Dallas Sports Commission will continue to build on our rich history of hosting LGBT sports and cultural events within our city and will strive to be a nationwide leader in diversity and inclusion; committed to advancing equality for the LGBT community. We emerge from this process extremely proud of what our city and its people represent in a pivotal time for Texas.”
Massive kudos go out to Gay Games Bid Committee of 22 community leaders, influencers, LGBT organizations and other supporters. While it didn’t turn out as we hoped (this time!), they deserve a round of applause for the efforts to bring the Gay Games to Texas. You represented us well!
