After hoping for the best, we’re now preparing for The Worst.
Because when Donald J. Trump becomes SCROTUS next Friday, we have no doubt he’ll continue to display his unique brand of unpresidential behavior in private, public and, of course, in 140-character typo-filled Twitter tirades.
Living in Dallas, we’re fortunate to have a strong, powerful LGBT community filled with (mostly) like-minded individuals, but not everyone in this country is so fortunate to have a support system like ours. We can rant and rave to our friends every day as our basic equal rights come into question under this administration.
But complaining solves nothing.
Yesterday, author Gene Stone released The Trump Survival Guide: Everything You Need To Know About Living Through What You Hoped Would Never Happen. Even though the title may sound like a humor book, the 196-page tome actually gives very practical advice on how to contact your representatives and other ways to affect real change. Chapters are devoted to in-depth looks related to the environment, LGBTQ communities, Obamacare, civil rights and women’s issues just to name a few.
We’ve survived presidents before who haven’t had our interests—or those of many other marginalized groups—at heart, so we’re not really preparing for Armageddon.
But just in case, we’re learning to get creative with canned beans and powdered milk.
