We think about Hedwig almost every day.
Not just because we absolutely adore the glamazon songstress from one of the greatest musicals ever written, but because there are numbers from the show on regular rotation at our neighborhood Starbucks. (“Wicked Little Town” goes great with a venti cold brew, by the way.)
And in less than a month, Hedwig and the Angry Inch returns to Dallas for a run at the Wigspear (er, Winspear) Opera House. The hit off-Broadway-turned-Broadway-Broadway musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask delivers tragedy, beauty, comedy and gut-wrenching drama to audiences barely able to keep from singing along at full volume.
Starring Euan Morton as Hedwig (pictured above) and Hannah Corneau as Yitzhak, the national touring production of the revival that won four Tony Awards in 2014 remains must-see to this day. No small feat for a little show that grabbed attention way back in 1998 when a character with a botched sex change landed onstage for the very first time.
And into our hearts forever.
