As the Moxie Mo Show mentioned back in September, the Apple Watch is Apple’s most personal device yet. The Apple Watch “brings an entirely new way to receive information at a glance and interact with the world through third-party app experiences designed specifically for the wrist,” states Apple. You can see all the great functions of the Apple Watch by checking out our past Apple Watch episode.
So what did we learn from today’s event?
As expected, the Apple Watch will come in three collections ranging from $349 to over $10,000. Yep, that’s right… $10,000! Apple is banking on their wearable to be the top choice for smart watches and only time will tell (no pun intended). You can begin pre-ordering the Apple Watch on April 10 and the Apple Watch will be available on April 24.
Here are the 3 collections:
1. Apple Watch Sport – each collection comes in two sizes (38mm and 42mm), and the entry-level Apple Watch Sport begins at $349 for the smaller version and $399 for the larger version. This collection is made from lightweight anodized aluminum and you can choose either silver or space gray for the casing. The Retina Display case is protected by strengthened Ion-X glass. For the band, Apple offers 5 different fluorescent colored bands to choose from (giving it that “sporty” look.)
2. Apple Watch – the middle tier collection starts at $549 (38mm) and $599 (42mm) but can go up to $1,100 depending on the band purchase. This Apple Watch collection features highly polished stainless steel with a Retina Display protected by sapphire crystal. This collection is expected to be the most popular, although some believe the price point is too high.
3. Apple Watch Edition – If you think $1,100 is expensive for the second collection, the third collection, Apple Watch Edition, is even more pricey! The Edition collection features eight uniquely elegant expressions of the Apple Watch and is crafted from 18-karat gold. The Retina Display case is polished by sapphire crystal. This collection is expected to start around $10,000 and can go as high as $17,000! This is clearly the “statement piece” that some will purchase (believe it or not).
All three collections will have a battery life of 18 hours (with moderate to heavy use) and come with a unique charging station that combines Apple’s MagSafe technology with inductive charging for a quick connection. Apple Watch settings will be customizable by using the Companion app on your iPhone, which we previously discussed on the Moxie Mo Show.
The success of Apple Watch is expected to be impactful not only because it is an extension of your smart phone, but because of its 3rd party apps (Uber, American Airlines, Equinox, Fitness apps, Instagram, Shazam are just a few Apple showcased today) that will work specifically for the watch, including Apple Pay. The Apple Watch will definitely be the smart watch to watch!
